The tension of the second cigarette and the model's stare to the right gives this composition a force that compels the viewer to stay with the image. Color, limited to lipstick and fingernail polish, gives a strong dramatic flare against your pallet of broad swatches of gray and black. The raking light across the uneven surface of the anchoring timber along the left margin adds further tension with the smooth surfaces of the rather banal background.
