Excellent image Corey! Love the thin whiff of smoke and the faint glow of the tip! Also the vignetting is much more subtle. This is a different shot from the b&w one, right? Cheers, Michiel

My pleasure Corey, and looking forward to your future submissions! I know how critical focusing can be; try manual focusing close-up at f1.4 and a 50 or a 35 with a moving subject, such as a face of a person that won't stand still... What I then do (which is why I prefer manual focusing in some situations) is move the camera instead of the focusing ring. It's still a tricky business at close range and wide openings though... This I actually do with the D700 and the Zeiss 2.0/50 Makro-Planar, or the FM2n or FA with assorted Ai-S glass, or the RTS III with assorted Zeiss glass. Cheers, Michiel

Hi CJ, As I said I think the idea and the resulting composition are great certainly in B&W, so only compliments there. But a lot depends on the execution, and there the image falls down a bit. DoF at 300m, even at f6.3, is razor thin, which would have worked extremely well if the cigartip would have been the point of focus, and even more if you would have caught the tip glowing. The rectangular vignetting (if that's what it is) looks a bit heavy, but is a matter of taste. The D3100 (as the D700 which I have) probably freezes focusing when you partly depress the release button, and if you select one focusing field in the viewfinder through the menu instead of all of them, you can focus really accurately. Cheers, Michiel Michiel

I like the B&W version- great, you can feel the texture of the flower.
