Even though this shot breaks all the rules (but, then again, rules should be broken at times) the starkness and position on the hill in relation to the gully and curvature of the hill were perfect. I added more light drama by darkeing the periphery of the gully area. Shot with the Sony FE 70-200 G telephoto, my only non-Zeiss lens.

Some calm between El Niño storms. A trip down the coast to Santa Cruz provided this lovely view of a roadside tree speeding motorists probably barely notice.
As I drive through country roads in northern California my eyes constantly scan for the next potential image. Here, my eyes caught the solitary cross-type fence post along the shoulder and I immediately stopped to capture that image. As soon as a Tepped out of the car my eyes caught the scene: beautiful leading lines. The fence along the bottom meeting with the lower hill, then the upper hill beyond the first.
