There is a lot can be done to this picture. Look at the position of her right arm and thumb. Also the flip of her hair over her right shoulder. It just needs to be cropped. Zoom in and apply the rule of thirds. Also do a little work in Photoshop to make the image pop a little. The squint could be just curiosity.

I appreciate the pointers and sincerely thank you. It's the small things that make one get better and I do want to take better photos.

I think there were possibilities here that were overlooked... Potentially a nice portrait if the girl were not squinting into the sun... move around to the side a ways for some side-light, move in closer to reduce the amount of repetitive background while retaining context, let her head not be in the center. Yet your subject is eye-catching and I like that part. :)
