Queen of the harvest

Notes

This pumpkin weighed 1,593 lbs, and placed second (for giant pumpkins) at the 2011 Topsfield Fair in Massachusetts. It was shown in a mundane, grey cage, and I thought it deserved a better setting - therefore, the background has been heavily manipulated. The pumpkin, however, is depicted in all its bumpy, gnarly, colorful reality.

Thanks, Doug and Steve. Doug, that bottom sharp outline does not show up on my working computer, which is calibrated for printing - but, when I look at it with my laptop, it sure does. You are quite correct, it makes this enormous pumpkin look like it's floating, which pushes the boundaries of reality a tad too far. I guess this is an inherent problem when showing your work via a wide variety of monitors - always something to learn, isn't there?

The dark background is complimented by the texture and the colour of the pumpkin. Lovely processing.

The lumpiness and color of the pumpkin work well, but the sharp outline bothers me... it seems to be floating against the background. I wonder if fuzzing that outline would help it look less of a cutout. :)
