I was given some very influential lessons about bold framing when I shot a film about the Norwegian artist Edvard Munch in 1973, directed by the immensely talented British director Peter Watkins. Framing cinematography is different from still photography, mainly because you cannot crop it afterwards, it must be perfect from the start. The importance of avoiding "loose, sloppy framing" has been obvious to me ever since, "leave the spectator with a wish to see more!" Thanks, Ranahki!

The choice of bold framing makes the portrait very interesting.
