There was originally a 2 storey Anglo Saxon church on this site of which an 11th century nave and 2 windows survive. It was altered in the 12th century by the Normans who added aisles. There is a chancel and arch of the 13th century while wider aisles and the tower were built in the 15th century.

The rood screen (also choir screen or chancel screen) is a common feature in late medieval church architecture.
