It was an unusually still night - this location is in the middle of the Columbia River Gorge which is notorious for high winds driven by the pressure differential between the drier continental land mass and incoming Pacific Ocean storms. As such it is one of the premier wind surfing areas in the world! I have seen 3 meter high waves on these waters but never seen it this calm and flat. At first I thought the blue of the stars in the water was some kind of LED or natural luminescence - I have never seen it so flat that the water reflected stars!! Thanks for the nice comments Aquilan and Canicus
