Damaris and Jare ran the hostel in Puerto Natales, the gateway to Torres del Paine National Park. She was Chilean, he was from Finland.
I was huddling on the shore of Lago Pehoe, trying to photograph clouds of water droplets whipped by gusts of wind off the surface of this cold, glacial lake , when these two Danish backpackers suddenly appeared and took a dip in the lake. Bill was a Britt I met in a hostel in Puerto Natales, Chile. He had biked all through Argentina, camping by rivers and fishing for his meals. He brought his own bottle of wine to the bar and asked the owner if he can borrow a cup to use.
